Let the countdown begin…

24 03 2009

We are counting down the days until our big anniversary weekend. This week has the SG Team finalizing the talent, the band, marketing, etc.

I am excited to have so many talented people performing at our 3rd anniversary event. The program will be amazing. We’ll have:

Eric Levels, Yunek, Lord Byron, Debra Tate, Courtney Sanchez and Emily C.

Of course we’ll have the SG Band as well.

Our theme is Three-ality. We are at a great point in Spirit Groove. Our third anniversary, a new home at the Millennium and the history we’ve built over the years. Our reality is on a foundation of trusting God to show Himself faithful to us month after month, year after year. No matter what, we’ve had great events and we feel blessed that even one person had a chance to share their heart or to hear a word in a format that they can relate to. That has been our mission and our pleasure.

April 3rd will be great! Be there… don’t let someone else have to tell you how good it was.

The Groove of Grace: Somebody’s Watching Me (Part 1)

23 02 2009

By StrUHT

Welcome to the “The Groove of Grace”, a column where we’ll spend some time looking a bit more deeply at our event themes. We’ll also muse on some other thoughts from a deeper spiritual perspective. Here again is your chief troublemaker, StrUHT, kicking this column off for all it’s worth.

The year was 1984. Michael Jackson was on fire (both figuratively and literally… more on that later). The artist known (and then formerly-known later, but now known again) as Prince firmly established himself on the musical scene with his breakthrough album, Purple Rain, which went #1 for 24 consecutive weeks. Considered one of the world’s greatest athletes at that time, Carl Lewis matched track-and-field legend Jesse Owens’ accomplishment of winning four (4) gold medals in the Summer Games. It was the birth year for future sports and entertainment stars: LeBron James, Fantasia Barrino, Carmelo Anthony, Avril Lavigne, Amy Winehouse (“No-No-No”)and Scarlett Johansson came screaming from the womb into the world.

And then there was… Rockwell.

SG POV: The Mind of Marchele

22 02 2009

Let me start with saying how blessed Spirit Groove is to have been around for almost three years. We are also blessed to have a new home at the Millennium Entertainment Complex. After a lot of changes with Spirit Groove, we have maintained faith in God and that He will continue to bless us and show Himself month after month.

In February, we returned after our January break and were looking forward to seeing out SG friends again. From the time I walked in the venue, I felt calm. The place was set up and was ready for the event we were going to have. As the team arrived, prayed, and went to work, I watched people come in for the program and noticed others peeking in to see what was going on. I wondered how many people in the audience had gifts they wanted to share. My hope is that they will do so soon.

As the stage manager, I find myself caught up in the details of the show. I’m always asking myself, “How long will this segment go?”, “Where’s the next act?”, “Who should go next?”, and “Are people having a good time?” I really appreciate the moments in Spirit Groove when there is synergy: you see a performer grooving in the Spirit, the crowd is interacting with the music, and the band joins along. It’s then that SG is able to breathe and see that the Spirit is in the Groove. This moment is especially great for me because I see how the efforts of the team have once again been blessed. I get to breathe, relax and enjoy the show.

For March we are going to have a “groovy” event. I am excited about some announcements we’ll be able to make at the March show. Stay tuned for what’s to come…

In The Groove: Event Report for 6 Feb 2009

7 02 2009

Hey everybody. I hope you are doing well. This is your boy StrUHT coming at ‘ya with the first “In the Groove” event report. I’ll try to get these to you for every Spirit Groove event we hold. If I can’t be there, I’m sure someone else on the staff will give you the low-down on the showdown. So, with that said, let’s get on with the details, shall we?

We were back at the Millennium again in East Austin. We were there last year in December for our annual “Holiday Groove” (that was the informal title of the event). The folks at the Millennium have been very kind to us and they welcomed us back in for another shot. Kim served as our “hostess with the most-ess” for the evening.

Once things got warmed up (it was a bit cold in there! That A/C was serious!), T.D.G. stepped to the mic and dropped Read the rest of this entry »

SpiritGroove ‘08

10 01 2009

The last event was great.

We had our first Spirit Groove at the Millennium Entertainment Complex.

Laura J came up from San Antonio and TDG did this new song.

I had the wings and attempted to work the sound system at the same time.

By the way I don’t recommend multitasking with wings.
